the winged moon open for submissions ANCIENT issue

Updated: Apr 29

from the editor

a forgotten estuary. fletchings piled on quarried stone. the tale of a tree, once woman. the coarse threads of myth strung like tapestry weave. the last breath of a ritual. the lost roots of a dance. this statue has no hands, no fingers to decide. the yew is no more. can you hear the moss motes singing? a whole sea of humans passed from memory. the coral knows their names. golden shadows across the unwritten page.

The Winged Moon is opening up submissions for our second print issue and online issue 6 and we invite writers and artists to submit their work to us in the theme of ANCIENT. This is a broad theme and we welcome your own interpretation. We are especially looking for work that swims in the undercurrent of myth, folklore, animism and the natural. We want to feel you in your writing and art whilst holding the door open for the unseen. We are not averse to strange or surreal pieces as long as it fits well with our theme and interests.

We publish:

Poetry (around 30 lines is our limit)

Prose Poetry (300 word limit)

Micro Fiction (300 word limit)

Art

Photography

We do not publish one line poetry, haiku (unless in a haibun) or other poetry forms of that size. Nor do we publish any work that is disrespectful to any group. We are not favourable to work that references technology or electronic world. Please read our last issue to have a feel for our writing and artistic preferences.

We will be accepting submissions from until May 21st 2024, however, we might close submissions early if we receive enough work before then.

We will send a confirmation that we have received your work within seventy two hours of your submission. And, as the submission window is longer than usual. We aim to review submissions on a monthly basis and will let you know then if your piece has been successful.

You can send two pieces to us in total for us to take a look at your writing in any category, but we will likely only publish one.

We will then collate all successful submissions for our anticipated publication date at the end of June. With an online publication on Substack two weeks after print release. The substack issue will be split over two/three weeks due to the size of the magazine.

We invite you if you are able, to send us a reading donation to our paypal (same email) to help keep our magazine alive.

We look forward to reading your work!

And if you have not yet read our first print edition. It is now available to purchase on Amazon. And our online PORTRAIT issue published in January on Substack. We’d love to hear what you think of the magazine.
